I am so happy for you! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">If you haven&#8217;t completed your training yet and just looking for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fostertoadopt.com\/foster-to-adopt-tips-advice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">information<\/a> on foster parenting, also welcome!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">The best part about this advice is its good information that you won&#8217;t necessarily learn in your classes but from <em>real foster parents <\/em>themselves!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1632 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.getyourholidayon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Love-makes-a-family.jpg?resize=500%2C750&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"adopting through the foster care process information. #adopting\" width=\"500\" height=\"750\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.getyourholidayon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Love-makes-a-family.jpg?w=500&amp;ssl=1 500w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.getyourholidayon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Love-makes-a-family.jpg?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.getyourholidayon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Love-makes-a-family.jpg?resize=333%2C500&amp;ssl=1 333w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">I&#8217;m going to start off with take everything with a grain of salt. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">You&#8217;ll definitely be surprised and nothing ever goes as planned. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Keep your mind and your heart open.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">As well as, remember as adults we are way more equipped to deal with the heartache then these innocent children.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">You do sacrifice your heart but it&#8217;s for a very good reason!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">In fact, here are a couple of things I&#8217;ve heard from other foster moms that stuck with me&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Foster parenting is the most heartbreakingly beautiful adventure! It&#8217;s not easy but it&#8217;s all worth it!&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Expect the unexpected also if they say this placement will only be for 3 months or short term. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Don&#8217;t always believe it because placements can turn into long term.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">As a matter of fact, my husband and I have been licensed for three years now. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">We have had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fostertoadopt.com\/fostering-first-placement-experience\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">four placements.<\/a>&nbsp;With that said, the little guy placed with us right now was an emergency placement that was to only be short term. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">We call him superman. Superman is legally blind and such an amazing little guy!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1633 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.getyourholidayon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Superman.jpg?resize=500%2C750&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Superman adopted though foster care.\" width=\"500\" height=\"750\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.getyourholidayon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Superman.jpg?w=500&amp;ssl=1 500w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.getyourholidayon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Superman.jpg?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.getyourholidayon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Superman.jpg?resize=333%2C500&amp;ssl=1 333w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">We have fallen head over heels for him. He was 6 weeks old when he was placed in our care. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">He is now almost 2 years old and is thriving. We know that God hasn&#8217;t finished writing his story yet and we are hopeful to be a part of it. \u2764\ufe0f\ud83d\udc99<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_you_need_to_be_a_Good_Foster_Parent\"><\/span>What you need to be a Good Foster Parent<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">A good support system and that doesn&#8217;t mean you have to have a million friends or family members but it&#8217;s important that you have people that you can lean on for support, people that will listen.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1634 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.getyourholidayon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/It-takes-a-village.jpg?resize=500%2C750&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Get a support system to help you when you need something. #ittakesavillage #motherhood\" width=\"500\" height=\"750\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">You also need&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Patience<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Compassion<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Self Control<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Kindness<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Optimism<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Being new to the foster world it&#8217;s extremely important that you remember these kids come with pain and baggage. ALL will change you forever. ALL of them are hard&#8230; choose to find the happy in each of them!&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Setting_up_a_Foster_Childs_Bedroom\"><\/span>Setting up a Foster Child&#8217;s Bedroom<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Real quick, find helpful ideas for getting things ready for children in your care <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fostertoadopt.com\/foster-care-bedroom-setup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here!<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">With that said, be prepared to own multiples of everything!&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Find out if family or friends are getting rid of cribs, high chairs, baby monitors, toys, or hand me down clothes! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">It will come in handy more than you know!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Also, check out garage sales or Once Upon a Child! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Children&#8217;s place is great for deals on clothes too. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">Actually you can find a whole bunch of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fostertoadopt.com\/foster-families-freebies-discounts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">savings here<\/a> just for foster families!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tips_for_New_Foster_Parents\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Tips for New Foster Parents<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Lastly,&nbsp;try to be accomodating as much as possible to the children in your care. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">For example, if they don&#8217;t like something that you cook perhaps make them a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourholidayon.com\/how-to-make-a-red-white-and-blue-grilled-cheese\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">grilled cheese sandwich<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Little things like that can really add to the trauma they&#8217;re already experiencing. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">You have no idea how much that could make a world of difference in a small child&#8217;s eyes.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Here are ten more helpful ideas for foster parents&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Keep in mind you do not have to say, &#8220;yes&#8221; to every call.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Make sure you listen to your gut. Love doesn&#8217;t fix all.
