In the past 6 years, I have been a foster parent and I have discovered ways to get free stuff for foster families, discounts that give us savings perks so that we can take our kids on vacation.

Foster kids require a variety of essential items for them to feel loved, safe, and secure. In addition to basic necessities like clothing and toiletries, comfort items like stuffed animals, toys, and books can make a big difference in the lives of foster children.

These items can help foster children cope with the trauma and uncertainty they may experience. They can also provide a sense of familiarity and stability. Moreover, they can help foster children feel loved and valued.

In this article, we will cover what freebies there are, how you can get them, what discounts to look for, and free things that foster children may qualify for. You won’t believe how much free stuff you’ll get at the end!

Foster Families Freebies and Discounts that could help save you money! #fostercare #adoption #fostertoadopt #savings

What Are Foster Families Freebies and Discounts

Foster families and churches play a vital role in providing safe and loving homes for children and teens in need. To show appreciation for their selfless dedication, many businesses and organizations offer special freebies and discounts exclusively for foster families.

These perks not only help alleviate some of the financial burdens that come with fostering, but they also recognize the important contributions foster families make to their communities.

One common area where foster families can enjoy discounts is in the realm of entertainment. Many movie theaters, amusement parks, and museums offer reduced or even free admission for foster families.

What are foster family support groups?

Until a child’s birth parents are able to care for him or her, foster parents provide a stable and supportive home for that child. Most of the time, foster parents work with social workers to reunite the child with his or her biological parents. Some foster parents care for more than one child.

But sometimes, there are just things that we can’t prevent. We all want reunification to happen, but sometimes circumstances prevent it from happening.

Foster family support groups are groups of foster families that come together to provide support and resources to other families. They provide an opportunity to share experiences, express feelings, and receive advice from other foster families. Sometimes they’ll share ideas for free stuff for foster families too!

They also provide a safe space for foster families to find a sense of community and support.

What is foster family training?

Foster family training provides foster families with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to provide supportive and nurturing homes for foster children.

The training covers topics such as child development, trauma and attachment, parenting skills, and self-care. It helps foster families to be prepared for the unique challenges that come with caring for foster children.

Is there a reason why the FAFSA asks if I have ever been in foster care?

It is asked in order to provide applicants in foster care with additional information regarding assistance through Federal programs. This question is offered to all students applying online, but it is not mandatory. Dependency status does not change based on responses.

Many states in the US have special funds to assist foster children in paying for college. In almost all states in the US, there are special programs that assist children adopted from foster care in paying for their college education. In some states, scholarships cover the entire cost of college tuition, while in others, tuition waivers are offered.

Disney Foster Parent Discount

Unfortunately, at this time, Walt Disney World or Disney Land doesn’t offer a discount for theme park tickets for a foster family! However, tickets are free for children 3-10.

Additionally, Disney does offer discounted rates for other qualified groups, such as military families, teachers, and first responders.

In addition, Disney does offer a “Magical Giveback” program that allows guests to donate their unused theme park tickets to charity. This program allows guests to donate their unused tickets to those in need.

Walt Disney World also offers a “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” program, which allows guests to volunteer with a local charity and receive a free Disney day ticket.

Ultimately, Disney’s donation programs help to ensure that their theme parks remain magical and that those in need receive help. As well, the Not so Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party have slightly lower-priced tickets versus regular admission if that helps.

Foster Care Rates

Current and proposed foster care rates: The current monthly rate paid to foster families for “Relative and Family Foster Care” the proposed rate will increase from $500 to $1,000 per child, per month depending on the state.

This rate would cover the cost of food, clothing, and other basic needs for the children. It would also provide caregiving families with additional resources to support their foster children.

What is an Adoption Day Sign:

A sign to mark adoption day is typically displayed after the court hearing. Photographs of this momentous occasion are often taken by the new parents. A lot of children wear shirts with sayings on them.

In addition, some families choose to take a picture with their child holding the adoption day sign and wear shirts like these. As an example, we’ve gathered some cool tips that we hope will help both!

Parents: The Best Adoption Day Ideas

There are a few reasons you might want to celebrate adoption day.

In the beginning, it is an important aspect of becoming a family. A child’s adoption day is more than a “gotcha day.” It is a day to show your love for them, to show how much you care about them, and to let them know that they are part of your family forever.

Second, to avoid hurt feelings. This can prevent disappointed children. It might seem to your kids that they don’t care if you make a big deal out of their adoption day or at least try to make it special. However, it can hurt a child’s feelings if they are not made to feel special on that special day, especially if other adoptive families are celebrating as well.

And third, to establish a stronger bond with your child. For some kids, this day can be full of heartbreak and sorrow, while for others, it can be an opportunity to start again. When this day is special, it strengthens their self-esteem and makes them cherish this childhood memory.

It’s October and learning how to make a toddler pumpkin craft was so fun in our house.

With a houseful of kiddos from all ages with this fall pumpkin craft, we are showing you how little ones can join in on the fun this Halloween too!

A toddler pumpkin crafts easy to put together on table for little ones.

Easy Fall Pumpkin Craft for Toddlers

All of my children love to craft! It’s not even all in the DNA nope! It’s all about love and imagination.

What I mean by that is… I am a mom to many! Biological, foster mom, and then of course the kids that just come over all the time and want to hang out with my kiddos kind of ma too, lol.

Therefore, craft time gets that much cooler in our home!

With this Jack-o-lantern craft, we are showing our latest idea with help from our little two-year-old!

It’s a toddler pumpkin! He calls it Mr. T. and guess whatttt? It is soooo easy to make!

Toddler pumpkin making craft idea.
500

All you need are just a few items…

That’s it! Awesome right? Just a few items.

What you will need to do is cut out the pumpkin, brown stem, and eyes and mouth.

After that, you will need a gluestick like this! I did have to help my son with putting the glue on the back of the pieces.

However, once I helped him with that. He was able to glue the pieces on the orange paper himself.

It’s so fun when they get to create their own art. Not only do toddlers want to make their own crafts. I think this pumpkin turned out so much cuter than I could have ever made it!

It truly becomes their masterpiece.

For example, check out this adorable pumpkins our little guy made!

Orange Pumpkin with eyes, mouth, and stem.
Easy toddler Orange Pumpkin Craft that has eyes, mouth, and stem.

SO cute right?!

The little guy (our little superman) we have had placed with us in our care for over 2 years. We absolutely love him to pieces!

Such an amazing little boy!

He will be leaving us soon to be placed back with a family member. We are going to miss him so much!

With that said, having keepsakes like this pumpkin craft.

I will cherish… forever!

Each one of my placements has held such a place in my heart! I love all of my kiddos so much! Each placement that has been with us I have been attached to and bonded with.

However, as we both know when they do have to leave it is hard. We have to trust that God knows what’s best and that there is another little one out there that needs a good home to lay their head.

Foster Parent Appreciation Letter

Dear Foster parent,

You are amazing! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do for these kids. I couldn’t thank you enough for taking the time to put them first.

I know it’s not easy waking up in the middle of the night to rock that precious baby girl or baby boy to sleep at 2 AM when you have to be up at 5 AM. But you are doing it with the utmost respect.

Thank you for changing their diapers, knowing their favorite food, and brushing their teeth. Whether you know it or not without you… they would be lost.

Explaining to a child they were adopted could be confusing here are ways to help.

How to Tell Your Child They Were Adopted

When do you decide to tell your child that they were adopted?

There are so many people that struggle with this issue and it’s understandable.

We’ve put a list of questions together from other adoptive moms of the following questions…

  • How to tell your child they were adopted?
  • When to tell your child they were adopted?
  • How old should your child be when you tell them they were adopted?

This is something that is between you and your child. Not everyone will have the same opinion.

With that said, we hope to help you in learning what other people have personally done in these situations and hope to help give you more peace of mind.

I think if you start early it will be just a fact that is part of their life, not a secret or a mystery.

Therefore if you are struggling with when to tell them here are some helpful responses from other parents who’ve adopted…

Tell them as soon as possible because if you keep it a secret they will be very hurt. This comes from a mom who was adopted as well as adopted herself.

📚Adoption books can help a lot! Find some great ones here!

Here are some more favorites:

  • On The Night You Were Born
  • Rosie’s Family
  • A Family For Choco
  • Mr. Rogers Talks about Adoption
  • I wished for You

Keep in mind

If you wait to tell them someone else can bring it up during a fight with a sibling or a family member or friend. You don’t want your child to find out from anyone else but you.

An adoptive mom said, “It’s better to have the news brought to your child in a conversation, not in an announcement. Also, if you have a hard time with this you could think about reaching out to a counselor to help.”

It may be helpful to even see that counselor first. Therefore, you could go over what you’d like to say and what information you’d like your child to know prior to the session.

During fostering classes our instructor said that once the adoption is finalized it’s very important to tell the kids right away. Even if they’re too young to understand.

The reason they want this is that it will start to familiarize the kiddos with the terminology and it’s also helpful to tell them in a soft manner.

“Tell me about the day I was born” is a question all little kids ask.

Remember it’s okay to say “I don’t know” there will be questions you may not have the answers for but telling them the truth is important.

What to say

What to say in conversation with your adopted child…

Let your son or daughter know that they came from someone else’s tummy but have been in your heart forever! ❤

Remind your child (or kiddos) that they have a unique story. Think about it this way most of us have the same story of being born in the hospital and going home.

Their story just happens to be more unique. It’s important for them to be proud of their story and who they are.

Telling my son he was adopted.

I heard an idea once that you could put a book together with your child. When they help you glue or draw the pictures in the album you could share with them their story.

Just remember to not fear the truth but be careful to not overload them.

Another idea to share with your son or daughter during the conversation about their adoption is the story about other children that have been through the same thing.

For example, you could show them books or tell them about other children’s stories of adoption.

This will help them to understand that they’re not the only one that has been adopted.

For more helpful resources check out the following…

Thank you for taking the time to check out this post! We hope that you were able to find some helpful information.

Remember you are not alone! Thank you for opening your heart and your home for a child in need. I wish you all the best!

Learning the call for adoption through God's work. #adopt #adoption #God #fostercare

Thinking About Adoption

Choosing to adopt a child is a really big deal. I personally think that is very honorable of you.

As a mother going through the fostering to adopt process…From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you!

Thank you for thinking of someone else and not just yourself.

Whether you are thinking about becoming a foster parent, going through the foster to adopt process, adopting from the United States, or adopting from overseas, sincerely thank you!

I truly believe that there was a reason you stumbled across this post right now.

The call, it’s calling you.

It’s a pretty remarkable call, isn’t it?

To make a difference in someone else’s life.

Different by Micha Tyler

In fact, there’s a beautiful song “Different” by Micah Tyler that I just absolutely LOVE!

If you have a few minutes I would totally love for you to check it out!

It will give you another uplifting reminder that God is there to help you as you walk through the next journey of your life.

Goosebumps right?!

I know exactly how you feel.

When we first found out that we were approved to be foster parents and then approved to adopt a child my heart was full of smiles and rainbows.

Come on… what is cooler than doing God’s work?❤

Did you know that in the bible it says, “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me,” Matthew 18:5

Again… goosebumps. 🙂

I just want you to know that you’re not alone in this process.

Thinking about adoption? You are not alone. Find out why! #motherhood #momlife

Adopting a Child

If it is something that you wholeheartedly want to do reach out to other people you know who’ve already adopted.

Familiarize yourself with all of the resources and know that it’s not always easy but it’s worth it.

For example, some of the following resources could help answer some of the questions you may have!

My husband and I are currently going through the fostering to adopt process.

We have been licensed foster parents since 2018.

Over the last few years, we have had four placements in our home and one little guy that has been with us since he was just six weeks old.

He is going to be two this August.

We call him Superman. He was born with two different forms of blindness and has had to overcome obstacles every day of his life.

He’s an amazing little boy that we are truly blessed to know.

We know that God isn’t finished writing his story yet and we are so hopeful to be a part of it.

Just like God isn’t finished writing your story yet either. If you are thinking about adopting… pray about it.

Let God continue to open those doors for you!

Prayers for strength, joy, peace, and blessings as you move into this new chapter in your life.

Foster Mom Review on This is Us

If you’re looking for a well-written tv series check out my This is Us Review

I am a mom and foster mom and I will be sharing my perspective on the show with you today.

In fact, this show touches my heart even more so as a foster mom and you’ll understand why as I get more in-depth with this review.

First, if you are unfamiliar with the show This is Us.

The NBC show is centered around the Pearson family and their family story.

Halloween Costume Contest Prize and Trophy Ideas

We have trophy ideas for all sorts of costume prizes including overall Best Costume, Scariest Costume, Cutest Costume, Best Couples Costume, Most Creative costume, and more.

Adult Halloween Party Favors

Who's ready to find some cool novelties, tricks, and party favors to share with guests at your Halloween party? We have tons of ideas that include blood bags (so cool), vampire fangs, and more.

About the Show

It tells their family story from the beginning when Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) fell in love, to their journey of being young parents to when their children grow up and how each person is impacted from the smallest to the biggest events that happen in the families lives.

In fact, if you’d like to learn more about the show go to NBC’s website here and it will give you more information about the cast, story, and you can even find episodes to watch!

With that said, this show is amazing for anyone to see!

My son is blind and how I can relate to Kate from the show.

Why I like the Show

As a mom and foster mom, I can wholeheartedly relate to certain impactful things that have happened on the show.

From the adoption perspective to relating very much with Kate the daughter.

It’s a neat series because every season you follow along with different stories of each of their lives.

However, it’s VERY important that you start with Season one and episode 1.

The reason I say that is because there is a whole storyline behind it and you don’t want to get lost with the switching of scenes from different characters.

As a matter of fact, if you have seen the show we will jump ahead…

The reason I said that I can relate to the show even more so as a foster mom is because the same season that Kate became pregnant and had a little boy they discovered was blind.

We were going through something similar but in a different way.

At that same time frame that “This is Us” was airing and Kate had her son.

It was the same timeframe that our foster son was placed in our care at six weeks old.

Our foster son was born with two different forms of blindness.

Watching Kate’s story as a mother felt so close to mine just in different ways.

In fact, I thought it was wonderful that “This Is Us” had brought to light a lot of aspects to help other parents going through similar situations.

Such as, I never even knew they held conferences for parents of children who are blind.

How awesome is that?

What a wonderful way to share more resources with the world.

NBC's resources for This is Us the show.

Best TV Show Ever

It’s going on almost two years now that our fs has been placed in our home.

He is VERY loved by us… he is absolutely amazing, and is learning and adapting to life every day.

All of the time he amazes me. I know God hasn’t finished writing his story yet. I am just so hopeful to be a part of it.

With that said, I love watching This is Us.

There is a lot of great morals, values, and obstacles you get to watch the family overcome, and in some ways, it helps you feel like you can overcome your obstacles even more so too.

New Foster Parent

Are you a new foster parent? Find advice to help you along on this journey!

Foster care tips advice for beginning the process. #adopt #adoption #fostercare #fosterparents

First, congratulations on being new licensed foster parents! I am so happy for you!

If you haven’t completed your training yet and just looking for information on foster parenting, also welcome!

The best part about this advice is its good information that you won’t necessarily learn in your classes but from real foster parents themselves!

adopting through the foster care process information. #adopting

I’m going to start off with take everything with a grain of salt.

You’ll definitely be surprised and nothing ever goes as planned.

Keep your mind and your heart open.

As well as, remember as adults we are way more equipped to deal with the heartache then these innocent children.

You do sacrifice your heart but it’s for a very good reason!

In fact, here are a couple of things I’ve heard from other foster moms that stuck with me…

Foster parenting is the most heartbreakingly beautiful adventure! It’s not easy but it’s all worth it!

Expect the unexpected also if they say this placement will only be for 3 months or short term. Don’t always believe it because placements can turn into long term.

As a matter of fact, my husband and I have been licensed for three years now.

We have had four placements. With that said, the little guy placed with us right now was an emergency placement that was to only be short term.

We call him superman. Superman is legally blind and such an amazing little guy!

Superman adopted though foster care.

We have fallen head over heels for him. He was 6 weeks old when he was placed in our care.

He is now almost 2 years old and is thriving. We know that God hasn’t finished writing his story yet and we are hopeful to be a part of it. ❤💙

What you need to be a Good Foster Parent

A good support system and that doesn’t mean you have to have a million friends or family members but it’s important that you have people that you can lean on for support, people that will listen.

Get a support system to help you when you need something. #ittakesavillage #motherhood

You also need…

  • Patience
  • Compassion
  • Self Control
  • Kindness
  • Optimism

Being new to the foster world it’s extremely important that you remember these kids come with pain and baggage. Even babies.

Be patient and take the time you need for yourself too.

No matter what, give them unconditional love, they need it!

No matter what, give them unconditional love, they need it!  #fostermom

Another written message from a foster mama, “Along this journey, you will find many “seasons” all of them are important. ALL will change you forever. ALL of them are hard… choose to find the happy in each of them!”

Setting up a Foster Child’s Bedroom

Real quick, find helpful ideas for getting things ready for children in your care here!

With that said, be prepared to own multiples of everything!

Find out if family or friends are getting rid of cribs, high chairs, baby monitors, toys, or hand me down clothes!

It will come in handy more than you know!

Also, check out garage sales or Once Upon a Child!

Children’s place is great for deals on clothes too.

Actually you can find a whole bunch of savings here just for foster families!

Tips for New Foster Parents

Lastly, try to be accomodating as much as possible to the children in your care.

For example, if they don’t like something that you cook perhaps make them a grilled cheese sandwich.

Little things like that can really add to the trauma they’re already experiencing.

You have no idea how much that could make a world of difference in a small child’s eyes.

Here are ten more helpful ideas for foster parents…

  1. Keep in mind you do not have to say, “yes” to every call.
  2. Make sure you listen to your gut. Love doesn’t fix all. Not all kids are for all homes.
  3. Communicate as much as possible through email and text so you can keep proof of conversations.
  4. Try your best to include every child’s culture into your daily routine.
  5. Remember that every child’s needs are different.
  6. Study the effects of trauma
  7. You can learn about almost anything on Youtube
  8. Make time for yourself
  9. Take time to connect with your spouse away from the kids
  10. Pick your battles

Prayers for strength through this next journey in being a new foster parent!

Prayers for strength, joy, peace, and blessings as you move into this new chapter in your life.

Just buckle up and hang on tight you’ve got this!

I wish you all the best! Good Luck!
